Tara M Dakini - Artist, Dancer, Storyteller
|
I trained in Art & Design at Brighton City College and I have studied Technical Hand Embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework. I have researched traditional and contemporary textile practices including: Jacobean Crewel Embroidery, Early Modern European Embroidery Design and the influence of imported Indian textiles, Japanese Sashiko Quilting, Indian Kantha work, Print making and Dyeing. I am currently developing my practice in Textile Design and Illustration techniques.
I am part of a joyful lineage of creative expression through movement, music and culture that is the global bellydance community and I’ve studied extensively with teachers from Egypt and North Africa, Europe and America. Over the past 25 years, I have studied many different styles of belly dance from Egyptian cabaret style through North African and Moroccan folk dances, to American transnational fusion styles of dance.
Dance has the power both to transcend and reconnect, rooted in the Earth we reach up to touch the Sky. Dance has a power that transcends cognitive processes and cognitive expression. It reaches in deeper, to the core of our beings and lifts our energies up higher, connecting us to all those who danced before us and all those who will dance after us
I have a wide ranging thirst for knowledge and I have a background in Science and Law as well as the Arts. I love teaching and my subjects include Embroidery, Illustration, Dance, Creativity and Spirituality
